We would love to meet you soon for a cup of decaf!
I believe that a woman’s birth is one of the most significant and exciting events that will ever take place in her life. It’s absolutely amazing the way that God designed our bodies for endurance and strength to birth life into His creation. I have been blessed with four beautiful children of my own and have worked with numerous mothers in obtaining the birth experience they desire. Pregnancy, labor and birth have become a significant aspect of my life and I enjoy helping and serving other mothers.
I started as a birth worker in May 2009 when I enrolled in AAMI as a Midwifery student, but was passionate about birth when I attended Pastor Mari’s child birth class in April of 2008 during my pregnancy with my 4th child. During my first year as a student midwife, I have completed a CBE class, a Breastfeeding Class, an Adult and Infant’s First Aid, as well as a Doula Training. I have completed Midwifery Skills Lab 1 and 2 in the last 2 years and have attended births in the last 3 years as a midwife’s assistant and as a doula. I’m looking forward to completing my midwifery Education and helping as many women as God directs.
After attending my first childbirth education class (taught by Doc Mari) with my friend & her expecting daughter, my eyes were opened to how God created the woman’s body to birth naturally & I saw the birth experience in a whole new light. This knowledge, led me to attend my first DONA International’s doula training class in 2007 and their Childbirth Educators class in 2008. With the knowledge from these classes & “on-the-job” training from assisting Doc Mari with her laboring mommies, I learned more about labor & birth. With each birth I attended & assisted at, it made me hunger to learn more about labor, how to prevent unnecessary medical interventions & how to be there for laboring mommies. As I continue to embrace this calling of God to be a part of this amazing ministry in our church, I am learning to grow in my relationship with God & the mommies that I serve. We as doulas & future midwives have the opportunity to serve each parent & these babies by sharing with them as much as we can so these little ones have a protected & blessed start in life.
Jolie Stewart received her doula training in 2007 and went on to become a certified childbirth educator in 2008 as well as a Certified Doula through the Doulas of North America (DONA) organization in 2010. She has continued to learn and be involved in the birth community by teaching supernatural childbirth classes, offering her support to women in labor and birth, volunteering with Operation Special Delivery as a doula, attending training classes on breastfeeding and homeopathics as well as enrolling in Ancient Arts Midwifery Institute (AAMI) as an aspiring homebirth midwife. She and her husband, Jacob, are the Lead Pastors at The Ark Christian Church in Kaneohe, Oahu where she lives with her husband and two children.
I am an ER nurse at the Queens Medical Center for the past 14 years and have seen many hospital births. I never thought I would be involved in birthwork, but once I became a part of The Ark family, I saw how birthwork could be a part of my ministry. I am currently in the midwifery program AAMI and took the Doula class as well. What I have learned has inspired me to help educate woman about God’s best for birth and to support them whether they choose to give birth at home or in the hospital. My husband Jason and I had an unplanned C-section with our first child and was able to have supernatural homebirth VBAC’s for our 2nd and 3rd children. I know that the support I had from the Birth Team at The Ark has given me the faith to birth supernaturally and I am passionate about helping others do the same.
I am a practicing RN for the past 20 years in the acute care setting. I have 2 wonderful loving children who were both born in the hospital. My passion is to see strong marriages and families in society, and little did I know, this would be a direction that God would use as part of this ministry. He has planted a growing desire in me after speaking with many women and attending Pastor Mari’s Childbirth Education Classes, to help and educate women that God created and empowered them to carry and birth their child(ren) without the growing number of unnecessary medical intervention(s). My deepest desire is to see women have the pregnancy and birth of their dreams by addressing every area of their lives, sprit, soul and body.
My name is Sharon Takashima. I am a wife, mother and grandmother and am learning to be “with women” as they experience what could be the most empowering and fulfilling event in their lives – childbirth. I had assisted Pastor Mari in her ministry as a Doula and Childbirth Educator for several years before learning that we could attend a home-based Midwifery school. I am a certified Child Birth Educator and have completed the educational portion for Doula certification. I am studying midwifery to help women have beautiful, extraordinary births and wonderful, healthy babies. I believe it is a part of my ministry is to assist women in having the best possible childbirth experience.
My Purpose: “For God’s glory, I exist to live a victorious life and to inspire others to do the same.” Birth-Work is one way in which God is allowing me to fulfill His purpose in my life. In addition to holding two Masters Degrees, I am a Certified Doula and Certified Childbirth Educator and continue my education as a Student Midwife. Since 2004, I have had considerable “on the job training” from my mom, Pastor Mari Stewart, as I have assisted her at many births. Whether in a hospital or home birth setting, my commitment to helping women birth “super-naturally” continues to deepen with every birth experience I am privileged to be a part of. I also believe that through my continued Birth-Work and sharing the beautiful birth stories of my three homebirth babies – God will allow me to minister his Grace, Love, and Faith to many families.
Since 1975, I have been involved in various arenas of birth work and in hundreds of births as a Doula. I am also a Childbirth Educator, Biblical Midwife, and Placenta Encapsulator.
The training of other women to minister through birthwork is a great part of God’s call on my life. The love of birth must be in my blood as my maternal grandfather graduated from Rush Medical College in Chicago and came back to Hawaii to open a private obstetrics practice in 1920. It is recorded that he delivered an average of 40-50 babies a month for a total of over 15,000 solo deliveries before he passed away. “The Doctor” as my Nana fondly referred to him, was the first intern of Chinese ancestry at Queens Medical Center in Honolulu and was also selected in 1941 as a fellow in the American College of Surgeons. Although my grandpa passed away six years before I was born, I have always known that in some form or fashion, I would end up following in “The Doctor’s” footsteps.
Besides experiencing the unmedicated births of my daughter and son, my greatest joy has been assisting in the delivery of my five grandchildren Hunter, Dakota, Elias, Levi, and Isabella.
