Since 1975, I have been involved in various arenas of birth work and in hundreds of births as a Doula. I am also a Childbirth Educator, Biblical Birth Attendant, and Placenta Encapsulator.

The training of other women to minister through birthwork is a great part of God’s call on my life.The love of birth must be in my blood as my maternal grandfather graduated from Rush Medical College in Chicago and came back to Hawaii to open a private obstetrics practice in 1920. It is recorded that he delivered an average of 40-50 babies a month for a total of over 15,000 solo deliveries before he passed away. “The Doctor” as my Nana fondly referred to him, was the first intern of Chinese ancestry at Queens Medical Center in Honolulu and was also selected in 1941 as a fellow in the American College of Surgeons. Although my grandpa passed away six years before I was born, I have always known that in some form or fashion, I would end up following in “The Doctor’s” footsteps.

Besides experiencing the unmedicated births of my daughter and son, my greatest joy has been assisting in the delivery of my five grandchildren Hunter, Dakota, Elias, Levi, and Isabella.

My Purpose: “For God’s glory, I exist to live a victorious life and to inspire others to do the same.” Birth-Work is one way in which God is allowing me to fulfill His purpose in my life. In addition to holding two Masters Degrees, I am a Certified Doula and Certified Childbirth Educator. Since 2004, I have had considerable “on the job training” from my mom, Pastor Mari Stewart, as I have assisted her at many births. Whether in a hospital or home birth setting, my commitment to helping women birth “super-naturally” continues to deepen with every birth experience I am privileged to be a part of. I also believe that through my continued Birth-Work and sharing the beautiful birth stories of my three homebirth babies – God will allow me to minister his Grace, Love, and Faith to many families.

I believe that a woman’s birth is one of the most significant and exciting events that will ever take place in her life. It’s absolutely amazing the way that God designed our bodies for endurance and strength to birth life into His creation. I have been blessed with four beautiful children of my own and have worked with numerous mothers in obtaining the birth experience they desire. Pregnancy, labor and birth have become a significant aspect of my life and I enjoy helping and serving other mothers.

After attending my first childbirth education class (taught by Doc Mari) with my friend & her expecting daughter, my eyes were opened to how God created the woman’s body to birth naturally & I saw the birth experience in a whole new light. This knowledge, led me to attend my first DONA International’s doula training class in 2007 and their Childbirth Educators class in 2008. With the knowledge from these classes & “on-the-job” training from assisting Doc Mari with her laboring mommies, I learned more about labor & birth. With each birth I attended & assisted at, it made me hunger to learn more about labor, how to prevent unnecessary medical interventions & how to be there for laboring mommies.  As I continue to embrace this calling of God to be a part of this amazing ministry in our church, I am learning to grow in my relationship with God & the mommies that I serve.  We as doulas & future birth workers have the opportunity to serve each parent & these babies by sharing with them as much as we can so these little ones have a protected & blessed start in life.
